Question:

Hard stool - does anything topical help make it flushable? I don't mean a diet change.?

My elderly parents are staying with me. I just learned that dad's on meds that make his stool unflushable. Hard as rocks and huge. Mom's used to just closing the bathroom door all day and letting it dissolve, using other bathrooms in their house. I can't do this with one bathroom plus the folks here.

So my question is if there's any old grandma's cure to encourage stool to dissolve quickly when already in the toilet. Seems maybe a household chemical or something simple, most likely. Anything that will loosen it enough to flush and prevent another overflow. Just make it to break down and flush in less than a day!

Please no diet-related suggestions - we really just need a chemical to put in the toilet with it so it breaks down and flushes easier.

Thanks for any help with this touchy subject and the kids who need to input, don't bother - it's not funny and you'll be ignored

  1. Toilet bowl cleaner, close lid wait about an hour, try flushing. But, you seriously need to help your father. A stool softener is not a laxative, it simply does what it says it does and it will make his life much easier and yours too. He must be in pain trying to pass this. Thinking just of him, call  his doctor or your pharmacist to see if one of them can recommend a gentle softener that will not interfere with his current medications.

  2. Unless you`re thinking about using a hammer or maybe a saw for this problem, you may consider posting this query in a pertainate catagory!
