Apparently you have to take the hard surface of the cuttlebone off before you feed it to turtles.

What is the easiest way to do this??

I just spent probably the longest 15 minutes of my life trying to saw the hard surface off with a regular knife... There HAS to be an easier way...

  1. just toss it in the water, they have such jaw power they will nibble on it just fine. Even if it slowly disolves the calcium is getting in him and thats important.

  2. no you do not need to take anything off when you feed a cuttle bone, i just put it in with my tortoises and they do the rest, your turtles beak is kinda hard so it will have no problem chewing through it it is not that hard, you can also grate it over your turtles food instead of a calcium supplement,  just put it in your turtle tank and your turtle will do the rest, they do have powerful jaws so you do not need to worry, i think who ever told you to cut off a hard bit was just having a joke with you, best of luck honey
