I know it's time to sharpen my skates. Is it normal to find it difficult to center your spin and you travel more that usual when your skates need to be sharpened?

Thanks

  1. I actually find it harder to center a spin when you first get your skates sharpened. Well used to. Not anymore since now i get them done really good but yeah it's definetly normal to feel that way

  2. It does seem to be harder to center spins when it's time for a sharpening.  Try this though.....when you are in the open position of your spin, even if it's just brief, bring your free leg up higher than you normally do.  It seems to set you back a little on the blade, helping you center easier.  That's my coach's "secret" tip for centering spins.  :)

  3. Yea because the blades are dull and nothing is keeping them from traveling. When your blades are sharpened, the blade can grip the ice. That's why you also don't slip on your jumps.

  4. If they aren't sharp enough, it's hard to do anything.

    Good luck!

  5. This is normal, but very easy to control.  Try to pull your arms in and focus on spinning on the ball of your foot, which is where you are supposed to be spinning (but you probably know that).

  6. yep.

    sharpen your blades.

spins are more centered when your blades are sharpened.
