Hard to oppose Golden Compass in Lingfield Marriott Hotel & Country Club Handicap (Div II)
Thursday's Lingfield Marriott Hotel & Country Club Handicap (Div II) has attracted a star-studded brigade of 11 horses at Lingfield, where they will hunt a cash prize of £2,386. For those who are interested in betting, it will be a tricky situation, as there
are plenty of capable runners in the line-up.
One cannot rule out the possibility that it will finally be Hatta Stream´s day. The 6-year-old is currently going through a lean patch, but this race might be his chance to break the shackles.
Meanwhile, it is quite tough to overlook Golden Compass, who is coming off a superb win here last month. Giles Bravery’s charge is so powerful that it goes against the grain to oppose her in a race of this nature. Most of her opponents are struggling for
form, and hardly have any excuse for their recent defeats. So, the punters should not look elsewhere for the victor.
Golden Compass started off this season on a high note. She secured well-deserved runner-up position at Newmarket, when finding only Trojan Rocket too strong. After a decent effort, the J. P. Carrington-owned filly could not maintain the standards and as
a result, ended up eighth at Kempton at the start of June.
She took a break of more than six weeks before her next start here last month. Under Adam Beschizza, she made all, and crossed to race against stands’ rail over 4f out.
She kept on well under pressure, and an outstanding finish guided her to a straightforward ¾-length success in the Lingfield Park Owners Group Handicap. No bettor can afford to bet against her especially after the wonderful form she showed last time.
On the other hand, Courtland Avenue remains capable of better things. The 3-year-old was impressive on his first two starts this season, but failed to make an impression at Newmarket, where he completed the order of finish. Diamond Vine seems best of the
remainder.
Hatta Stream, Courtland Avenue and Diamond Vine are three major competitors, who can make Golden Compass’ journey problematic. Nevertheless, the filly remains the safest option. Good luck to everyone.
