Hard top surf boards slippery?

I took my first surf lesson and i got a horrible rash from the soft top board. So my teacher "johnny boy" (who i guess is famous or something) told me that my balance was good enough to try a hard top the next time i went. But isn't that going to be super slippery and won't i end up like killing my self?

  1. Soft-tops are slippier than hard-tops because they dont use wax.

  2. you must not know anything about surfing because when you get on a hardtop you put wax on it so  your feet dont slip.......its not like the movies

  3. Follow the advice of your instructor. It's not only his job to teach you, but to keep you safe as well. He'll show you how to wax it. And the rash on your legs may be from using a soft top. I've only ridden fiberglass and epoxy boards and have never gotten a rash on my legs.I may get an initial rash when I first go out for the season, but it subsides in a few days. I usually just wear a rashguard to prevent sun damage.

  4. well you have to put wax on hard top boards so they are not slippery at all. you have a great grip on the board. but make sure you have the the right wax for the water temperature. like for tropical waters you need tropical wax. also, you will probably get a rash on any exposed skin on your board. make sure you wear a rash guard and long enough board shorts. but after surfing for a while you will start to not get a rash. so the hard top boards are not slippery when you have wax on it. hope this helped. have a great time out there!

  5. That is why they make wax. You spread wax on top of the board and it keeps you from slipping. Also, you can wear a rash guard, with is basically a neoprene shirt to help with rash on the stomach or arm pits from paddling.
