Question:

Hard wiring in an xm radio in to my car.?

I would like to hardwire my xm radio in to my car. I noticed on the cigerette lighter plug that it says 6v. I'm pretty sure my car puts out 12v though. Any idea how to hardwire it in? I really hate having wires laying all over, kind of OCD about that kind of stuff.

My first though was just to wire in an extra cigerette lighter plug somewhere hidden and plug it in, but I figured if I was going to all that trouble, might as well do it right.

Any ideas?

  1. Actually, hard-wiring a cigarette lighter plug is the best way to do it.  That's how I hard-wire power on all satellite radio systems.  The available FM-direct adapter for XM comes with a 12v DC socket like this one:  http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl....

You can get the same part by purchasing a cheap cig-socket Y-splitter and cutting off one of the ends.
