I've read the entire book, but am still having trouble with explaining some of the following maxims.

Its not who you know, its who you get to know

Only talk when it improves the silence

Always concede on principle

Hang a lantern on your problem

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. The first thing you need to do is to stop reading that partisan hacks book

  2. That clown can't even speak without spitting all over his chin. What makes you think what he writes is worth anything?

    He's a bitter little douchebag

I suppose your socialist  government class would never have bill oreilly as a book recomendation

  3. I don't agree with Chris Matthews or his book, but here's my best shot at explaining  2 of these  sayings:

It's not who you know, it's who  you get to know - you have to make your own contacts and connections, you can't just rely on the ones you get through your family

Only talk when it improves the silence - this is a cynical remark that implies that all communication is meaningless.

  4. Sometimes who you know doesnt help. But someone you meet that could help you along the way.

Sometimes if your in a situation where no one is talking and you have something that could improve the silence such as a funny joke, something you heard Chris Matthews say on Hardball that day that you found very interesting etc, That can spark a whole different topic in conversation and get everyone talking .The other two Maxims I am not sure of.
