to check the hardness of water , we take sample of water 50 ml.. add drops of ammonia buffer & EBT ( Erichrome black ) & titrate it against EDTA 0.01N.

CALCULATION:

Harness in PPM = ( BURETTE READING X O.O1 X 100000 ) / 5O

140 PPM ( 7ML is the burette reeading)

this is 100% correct method.. but tell me plz where this 100000 factor comes..?? what is this..??

  1. adnan,its a v.simple question.this is probably 1000000,nt 100000.it must b 1000000.now see,this 1000000(=10^6) stands 4 conversion to ppm.

    1ppm =parts per million=parts per 10^6.

    this factor is included into the formula so that u get ur answer direct into ppm.
