Hardrive Problem With A Gateway PC?

Question

When I start up the computer it goes to a black screen that says "problem with hard drive detected,press enter to continue" then when you do continue the computer starts over again. Any info?

get a dos boot disk and run chkdsk c: -r

You could have 2 things wrong

1) your MBR Master Boot Record is faulty and computer cannot recognize it

2) your BIOS has changed and need to be set back to default

Both can be fixed

1) use " Hirens Boot cd " to restore MBR it has a lot of programs on it

all you do is boot from it and go through different section until you come to hard drive section follow instruction from there

2) When you first boot computer down near bottom of screen will be Press XX key to enter BIOS press the key and when in BIOS on right of page will be how to reset to default
