how long after a court date should you apply for a hardship lisence? Also, how long does it take for the lisence to be processed until you are able to drive with it?

  1. It shouldn't take more than 2 weeks to obtain it, IF you are approved. To apply you will need to bring documentation stating your hardship, (school, work that can not be gotten to by public transit, medical appointments, etc.).  Just wanting a hardship license to go shopping, banking, etc. will not cut it with the licensing board. They'll weigh all the facts before granting one.

  2. Apply immediately.

    Personal opinion:

A "hardship" license is utter nonsense and should be abolished. If a person is suspended or revoked, then they are most likely,  chronic viloators. In other words, one or two tickets was not enough to impress them or get them to obey traffic laws. That said.....in my opinion......those people should just walk, take public transportation, ride with someone, buy a bike.

Suspension or revocation is meant to be a very stiff penalty that makes a person understand the importance of protecting their license by complying with ALL traffic laws. The "hardship" license waters down the punishment, making almost completely worthless.

I have no pity for those who get suspended or revoked. Why should I? Chronic violators are a danger on the roadways. Sorry. Nothing personal intended. Traffic laws are there to minimize injuries & death, not make money as some believe.

  3. steven is right.....only a judge can do that.

do you need it for work? school? drive a handicap relative to the doctor on a regular basis?

that is the only reasons you can get one.

remember, driving is a privilege, not a right.

your punishment was inability to drive.....take your medicine.

and get some walking shoes or bus tokens for a while.

  4. As soon as possible.

  5. You DON'T apply for a hardship license.  You get the JUDGE to GRANT one.  You do that IN court , not after the court date.
