Hardwood from 1800 Empire?

Question

I have heard that 1-800 Empire( the carpet guyz ) now have hardwood.

Does anybody what their labor charges for installation of hardwood is??

Empire does not have a good reputation, and in many cities have numerous complaints with the BBB.  Local small retailers are usually your best bet.  Labor charges vary, but generally run $3-5 sq. ft.  The wood cost also greatly varies, between $3-8/ ft.  The best way to buy this, is to shop at one store, and decide on a specific brand and product.  Then, shop 2 or three other stores, and get price quotes from the same specific product.  It is also good to have the store where you purchase the product also do the installation, as if there are any warranty issues, you will not have to get into a dispute as to whether it is an installation issue, or a manufacturing issue.  To throw another wrinkle into this process, Laminates are far outselling hardwoods, as they are considerably less expensive and far easier to maintain.  The problem with laminates, is there are great differences between good laminates, and junk laminates, and the consumer is hard pressed to tell the difference.

As Andrew pointed out Empire has a -terrible- reputation. Just google them or check your local BBB.

I would look in your local Yellow Pages under Floors - Floor Laying, Refinishing. A good hardwood installation and refinishing company specializes in hardwood flooring and will get you the best price in addition to the best service. Most (if not all) of the carpet and hardware (Lowe's, Home Depot) stores subcontract their hardwood work out to these people. Cut out the middle man and save yourself some money. Estimates are almost always free and you are under no obligation to buy. Look for a company that has been in business for many years and get references from recent jobs.^
