Harewood's agent confirms talks with Blackpool
Marlon Harewood's agent has confirmed that the striker is in talks over a possible move to Blackpool for the start of the Premier League season.
Blackpool have been searching around the transfer market for the entire summer, looking for players who will give the club a much better chance of staying in the Premier League.
Harewood has enjoyed spells at Aston Villa and Newcastle United in the recent past but has since been released by these clubs due to his lack of consistency over the course of a long season.
However, Blackpool desperately need players who are better than the players they already have in their squad. Harewood is never going to be the best striker in the Premier League but he could do a job at Bloomfield Road.
Another chance
A move to Blackpool would represent another chance for Harewood when many have said that he would never play in the Premier League again. He had a very frustrating time at Aston Villa appearing just 29 times for Martin O'Neill between 2007 and 2010.
He had a quite prolific spell with Newcastle last season scoring five times in fifteen appearances for the club. This would have given him confidence and he should be determined to make an impression if Blackpool give him a chance.
He is a very big and strong player but lacks a little bit of pace that he once possessed. The club could do a lot worse and this will be a lift to Blackpool if both parties can sort out a deal.
Harewood's agent Phil Sproson said: "We are set to have talks with Blackpool over a possible deal and we will be going into discussions with an open mind. Marlon has done well in training and he has been impressed by Ian Holloway and the players up at Blackpool."
Betting advice
While this would be a positive signing for Blackpool you must keep your eyes fixed firmly on the reality of the situation. Harewood failed to make any sort of impression at Aston Villa, which suggests that he will struggle to score against most defences in the Premier League.
Blackpool were and still are the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League and they will have to do a lot better than this if they want that to change. Credit to them for trying to make improvements to their team for the new season but it could all be a bit much for them by next May.
