Hariquin mini rex doe or blue mini rex doe?

Hi there. I am a new rabbit beeder and i a getting another mini rex and i was wondering what one would be a better choice - hariquin mini rex doe or blue mini rex doe.

  1. I agree that you need to not jut look at color but the other qualities of each rabbit.  Which is closer to the Standard of Perfection?  Which will compliment your buck the best?  Make sure they don't have the same faults.  As they saying goes, "You build your house before you paint it".  Besides type (shape) fur carries a lot of points on the Mini Rex.

    All that said, I'd stay far away from the Harlequin or any other unrecognized color or undesirable pattern or genes especially since you're new.  I just don't like to mess with it.  Stick with easy, basic, color genetics and go for the overall quality.

    Besides, you can do a lot more with recognized colors.


  2. That depends on what variety of buck you are going to breed her to?

    A Harlequin should only be bred to a Tricolor buck. A Blue doe can be bred to a Blue buck or a Black one depending on what she has in her background.

    Also a Harlequin cannot be shown as it is not a recognized variety but a Blue can.

    You also want to look at the strengths and weaknesses of both the doe and the buck and make sure they balance each other out.
