Harle, Deibler, Meeuw and Steffen dominate German World Championship Trials in Berlin
Day two of the German World Championship Trials began with many substantial performances of swimmers in the Women’s and Men’s 800m freestyle, 50m breast-stroke, 50m butterfly, 100m back-stroke and 100m freestyle events in Berlin, Germany, on June 1.
Isabelle Harle claimed the Women’s 800m freestyle crown with a sterling time of 8 minutes and 34.83 seconds. Sarah Kohler captured the second spot in 8 minutes and 41.97 seconds and Elisa Thimm was placed third in a time of 8 minutes and 47.19 seconds.
The Men’s 800m free relay title was captured by Martin Kutscher, Stefano Razeto, Lukasz Wojt and Marco Di Carli with a winning time of 7 minutes and 25.02 seconds.
The Men’s 50m breast-stroke was clinched by Hendrik Feldwehr with a time of 27.34 seconds. Erik Steinhagen took the second spot with a time of 27.93 seconds and Johannes Neumann rounded out the top three in a time of 28.32 seconds.
In the Men’s 50m butterfly event, Steffen Deibler wound up first with a fastest time of 23.46 seconds, while Hannes Heyl settled second in 24.24 seconds and Philip Heintz secured the third spot in 24.42 seconds.
Helge Meeuw topped the Men’s 100m back-stroke race with a sterling time of 53.76 seconds and improved to sixth spot in the world rankings. Marco Di Carli earned the second place honours in a time of 55.08 seconds, whereas, Jan-Philip Glania settled third
in 55.20 seconds.
Britta Steffen picked up the top seed in the Women’s 100m freestyle prelims with a stime of 54.48 seconds and jumped to the thirteenth spot in the world rankings. Daniela Schreiber hit the wall second in 55.03 seconds and Silke Lippok took the third place
in 55.09 seconds.
A number of other swimming events are set to take place in Berlin, which includes the Men’s and Women’s 100m freestyle, 200m butterfly, 400m freestyle, 200m breast-stroke and a number of other categories also.
The championships are important as they are a selection trial for national swimmers to contest at the upcoming 2011 Shanghai World Championships.
