Harlequins RL lose 24-54 to Warrington Wolves in Super League fixture – Rugby League news
Warrington Wolves emerged as winners in the July 16 clash against Harlequins RL with the final score break-up of 54-24.
Warringtons took off with a strong start, within the first eight minutes of the game as Wolves grabbed the lead with 18-0. Garreth Carvell along with Chris Bridge contributed three of the total six tries for Warrington. Harlequins were guided by Luke Dorn
to their first try of the game, after three tries were already on the Wolves score board.
The first-half for Quins was a downright horrible game, with Luke Gale’s kicks blocked by Michael Monaghan, who passed the ball to Carvell and scored for the Wolves. Wolves’ performance was commendable from the start of the match as they managed to score
two tries only two minutes apart.
Quins seemed weak throughout their first-half as the lacked the ability to maintain possession but the situation definitely improved during the second half on the game for them. With Matt King’s injury, the Quins’ glory period ended too.
Commenting on Quins’ performance, Rob Powell who is the head coach of Quins stated, "It's a shame that you don't get a point for each half otherwise it would have been one-all. Obviously it was a disappointing start but in saying that Warrington have done
that to a lot of teams this year. I don't think we're on our own in conceding 18 point in the first10 or 15 minutes of the game.”
While discussing the overall bad performance shown by his team, Quins’ coach mentioned that it was difficult to “pin point exactly” where his team went wrong because the squad had been preparing well for the clash and were in good form with the apt frame
of mind just ahead of the game.
He further acknowledged that the second half of the game was “pleasing”. During the break Powell spoke to his team in the following words “we have come with the right level of intent,” which definitely prove beneficial for the remaining part of the game.
Bridge, of Warrington Wolves stole the lime light of the Super Rugby clash with four tries from his side, scoring three of them in the first-half of the game, and going for his fourth one just after the break. Others who bagged tries for Wolves include;
Carvell, Richie Myler, Joel Monaghan, Briers and Paul Wood.
With Brett Hodgson scoring seven goals for the Wolves, Mickey Higham and Lee Briers, also added to the goal totals.
The try scorers for Quins included Dorn, Daniel Sarginson and Andy Ellis and all four goals were scored by Gale.
Harlequins have continued to exhibit weak performance throughout the season, marking this one as their eighth defeat out of a total of eleven games played this season.
