Harlequins sign Australian duo of Michael Witt and Mark Bryant on a two-year contract - Rugby League
England based Harlequins Rugby League (Harlequins RL) has acquired the services of the Australian players, Michael Witt and Mark Bryant, from the outgoing Super League side, Crusaders Rugby
League Football Club. Harlequins’ officials have confirmed the signing of Witt and Bryant on a two-year deal, in a statement released on their website on Friday, August 5.
Last week it was announced by the Rugby Football League (RFL) that the Crusaders have withdrawn their licensing application, which led to their relegation from the Super League competition.
Harlequins Head Coach, Rob Powell, has expressed his delight on securing the services of the talented pair and termed them an important inclusion in the side. The 27-year-old Michael Witt started
his professional Rugby League career with Parramatta Eels in the 2003/04 season. He played 27 games for Eels and scored 176 points in the Australian National Rugby League.
At the start of the 2005 season, Witt joined the Manly Warringah, where he made 20 appearances for them and scored 144 points. Later in 2007, he joined the New Zealand Rugby League side, New
Zealand Warriors. He made 43 appearances for Warriors and scored 291 points.
At the start of 2010 season, the Toowoomba born Witt joined the Super League outfit Crusaders. His 2010 season at Crusaders was cut short due to injury. However, in his 17 appearances of the
season for Crusaders, he scored 117 points, which includes six tries. In the 2011 Super League season, Witt scored 54 more points for Crusaders including six more tries for them.
Commenting on his skills and abilities, Powell said, “Michael will provide us with direction around the park. He has fantastic kicking game and is a great footballer. It's exciting bringing
him in and he will complement our existing quality play makers.”
The New South Wales born Mark Bryant started his professional Rugby League career with Canberra Raiders in 2002. However, he failed to capture the spotlight. In 2005, he joined Manly – Warringah,
which proved to be the turning point of his career. He played 92 games for Warringah and scored 92 points for them.
The 30-year-old Bryant joined Crusaders at the start of 2009. He has made over 68 appearances for Crusaders, which includes 57 in the last two seasons.
Powell has termed Bryant as a top quality player. He further added, “He has been a consistent performer in Super League over the last three years and will bring us experience and leadership.”
