Harlequins signs Hull Kingston Rovers’ Liam Colbon and Matt Cook – Rugby League News
London based English Rugby League club, Harlequins Rugby League, has strengthened their squad with the addition of the duo of Liam Colbon and Matt Cook from the Hull Kingston Rovers. Quins officials have confirmed the signing of the winger Colbon and back row forward Cook in a statement released on their website on Wednesday, September 7.
The club has inked a two-year deal with the pair, which will add depth to their resources for next season campaign.
Hull Kingston Rovers has confirmed the departure of the players in a press release on their website. The statement included, “The club thanks both Liam and Matt for their contributions and wishes them all the best for their futures.”
Quins head coach, Rob Powell, has expressed his delight at acquiring the services of the veteran players. He termed their inclusion as an important addition to the squad.
Commenting on signing of the winger Colbon, Powell said, “Liam is exactly the type of winger that we like at this club. He makes a lot of metres in yardage and is a strong ball carrier.” He went on to speak about Cook and said, “Matt's a strong ball carrier and runs a decent line on an edge. He will definitely add something to our squad.”
Powell admitted that due to the intensive competition at the Rovers, Cook did not enjoy many playing opportunities. However, he expressed his confidence that given a chance, he will make the most of the opportunity, as he posses the skills required to do so.
The 26-year-old Colbon shared his excitement at signing his new professional deal with the Quins. He added, “It's a great opportunity for me to show what I can do and I'm really looking forward to joining up with the squad and to start working with them all in the off-season.”
The 24-year-old Cook has expressed his delight on his new deal with the Quins, which has enabled him to return to the club where he started playing his rugby.
