Harley 1200 sportster bogs every once and while resolved by pulling out choke?

runs great but sometimes bogs and pops until I pull choke, then runs like a champ. I just changed plugs and air filter/oil

  1. its running lean/air leak on intake side


  2. Lean lean, look for leaks. you could burn it up if you keep riding lean

  3. Everyone's right about being lean... pulling choke enrichens. If you put a K&N in you may be lean in the mid range... could be needle or jet. It'll take a dyno to be sure. First, spray a little WD 40 with the red straw around the intake at the heads while idling... if it revs up a bit you definately have an intake air leak.

  4. It sounds like it's running too lean.Did you change pipes or the air cleaner to a higher flow set up?You might need to re jet the carb.

  5. sorry but sounds like the air filter bad but you say you change that .. you been buying cheap gas have you.... you got to watch that e 85 dont use it... run high octane or regular.. has the carb been rejeted didnt say how old it was but boging down and poping would make me think fuel or air bad.. so you have done the air so now try another type of fuel or change where you buying it
