  1. We see this same Question over and over and the answer are the same and the bashing is the same.so in my opinion there are 4 types of riders

    1. Adrenaline riders (ride for the rush of speed and trill) Sport Bike

    2. RUBS (rich Urban bikers the are the show offs and weekend tough guys) They Ride what ever type bike make the feel COOL

    ANY

    3. Commuters (Point A to B riders they ride what ever the can afford and is best for there income)

    4. Old School ( Ride for the enjoyment of a long ride no rules per say just the rules of the road) yes they would prefer one type of bike but would ride about any thing if they had to.

some riders cross in to one or more of these types

I have a few Buddy's that have more than one type bike for that reason why limit your self to one thing.

I enjoy having my HD more than any other bike I have owned but I would ride anything just to ride.

  2. I like cruisers but not HD.

    I don't like Sports Bikes.

    good Luck...

  3. Sport bikes a fraction of the cost, much more development, better handeling all around etc. The Harley is a look, Statement, and nothing else. (sorry HD guys).

  4. Harleys are much better if you plan on riding for more than twenty minutes. Crouch rockets are uncomfortable to ride for very long; laying on your bike, having to contort your neck upwards isn't very fun for cruising on the highway. I'm not saying that they're bad, I just don't like them. It all depends on what feels confortable to you. If you want the sport look but the comfort of a cruiser look into the VRSC family of Harley-Davidson. I've sat in the sadle of one of these and it was atleast as confortable as any of bikes I've tried if not more, but once again it all depends on how you feel riding it. Go to a couple of dealers and try them out. Before you buy ask to take it for a test drive to see how it handles and keep in mind what you want to use it for. Some people bikes just to get from place to place while others take them on thousand mile trips. If you wpuld to spend much time on the highway You'll probably want a cruiser, even if it's not a harley.

  5. HD As long as its pre Evo

Yeah I know I just dont like them

  6. Different strokes for different folks.

What's the question anyway? What's better? What should you get? What do I like?

I think you left out the important part.

Sport motorcycles are not for me. I've had many brands (not a Kaw, regrettably).

I still own a Honda, but I prefer my Superglide.

  7. i just sold my triumph and bought a new softail and i love it . i did about 450kms on saturday and  we got passed by some sport bikes but everytime we would catch up to them when they pulled over to stretch , then we would just cruise by them again . i find people that bag harleys know they cant afford one

  8. Easy.  Besides transportation people are in two camps when it comes to bikes.  You have to ask yourself if you are motorcycling as more a sport or more a lifestyle and status.

The sport guys if it is dirt biking, sport touring, or canyon carving, or popping wheelies at 80mph, worship at the alter of performance, anything else is secondary.

The lifestyle, status symbol guys go to Harley because to those who are into that no other bike buys the status, or gets you into the lifestyle club like a Harley.  70 year old technology, perhaps the worst performing bike out there, basically two wheeled tractors.  But if you want to mount a flag to your bike and ride in a parade, or  hang out with doctors, lawyers and fry cooks all dressed up like g*y pirates and getting into a Trekkie type nerdieness over a brand of bike, you gotta buy a Harley.

    Bonz...Well said.

  9. This is a question only you can answer. What is your riding ability ? how far do you like to ride ? how fast ? do you like to cruise & enjoy the day or haul a** with your hair on fire ?

    Don't think if you buy a harley it's a semi on 2 wheel's.

The performance that a motorcycle put's out has  more to do with rider skill & ability than what type of bike they are on.

  10. you leave out all the cruisers that Aren't HD.

Go to a store and sit down on both types of bikes and see which one is more your style.

  11. depends on where u ride.

If u are a little guy, don't get a HD, it will look funny, street bikes are cool, but they get uncomfortable after a while of riding.

I would go for a sport motorbike because i don't like huge cruisers.

    Your choice...

  12. chicken or golf?

  13. sport bike, get a gsxr-750  great bikes, i work at a harley repair shop, and u will have the harley in the shop more than you are riding it

  14. If you have to ask then you should not get either...

  15. Not  enough information. Hopefully this helps in some way..

Not all sport bikes are "rockets". Not all Harley's are "behemoths".

If you like going 145 mph on a super engineered engine, it's not going to be harley.

If you are into putting on lots of miles and time, your body will need to be able change and adjust. That's not going to be a "rocket".

If you've never ridden, take a riding course. You will see and ride a number of bikes and get a better idea of what you might be needing for your ride.

Whatever you do, do not let a dealer talk you into a "looks cool, this is the bike for you - give me your money and here's your helmet - have fun." the hospital bills are counter -productive to your bank account, and the redesign of your bike is not real pretty.

The reasons there are so many different styles out there is because there are so many different reasons and ways to ride. Being able to do stupid biker tricks on any bike gives us all a bad name and doesn't further our cause for the motorcycle rider.

When you ride- ride what you've wanted to ride. Ride safe, ride smart, ride hard.

    End of sermon.

  16. Depends if you want to cruise or carve up some twisty back roads. It doesn't have to be a Harley if you want a cruiser, there are many nice Japanese cruisers out there as well. I have a Harley and a sport bike and honestly I ride the Harley more since I tend to do longer rides and a cruiser is just more comfortable for me on a long ride. It really comes down to performance versus comfort, so which is more important to you? Not saying sport bikes are uncomfortable, just not as comfy as a cruiser.

  17. These HD Owners compare all sport bikes to a crotch rocket

the reason they do this is because they never rode any other bike than a HD!

A sports bike doesn't mean its a crotch rocket!

There are many good standard, naked, and touring sport bikes out there that have standard handlebars with a normal upright seating position, Ninja 650 for an example.

Sports bikes are MORE comfortable than any cruiser bike and make riding on a long distance much more comfortable.

Crotch Rockets are NOT comfortable, I agree, but not all sport bikes are crotch rockets!

  18. yup, elaborate.  Ive ridden a ton of bikes...I have flip flopped from HD to sport bikes..they both have their pluses.  I would say that I lean towards sport bikes because I enjoy their engineering/handling.

However, Buell just came out with the 1125, that is going to be a nice bike.  Motor by Rotax, so it has some nice Buell innovation with essentially an Aprilia liquid cooled V Twin.  that bike is going to be sweet.

I say s***w a Harley, and s***w a sport bike.  I am waiting to pop for a KTM 950 SM, supermoto bike.  sits like a dirt bike, has 17" wheels and sportbike style suspension for exc. handling, ultra torquey V twin....you sit up so youre not carrying so much weight on your arms....this bike is a handful, and tons of fun in the twisties.

are you the kinda guy that goes to the twisties to admire the scenery and point at things, or tear up the asphalt and chew up a set of tires :)

  19. They are 2 totally different concepts in riding.

The difference between a pickup truck & a sports car.

How can you not know what you want?

  20. Victory Hammer S best of both worlds.
