  1. use Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil 20W50

all the Harley guys are using Amsoil

  2. the sporsters gearbox uses the same oil as the engine. so there isn't a separate fluid to change on the sporty.

to change the primary case fluid, (large cover on the left side of the engine), find the small plug on the bottom of the primary cover and remove it. after draining stops, replace the plug and remove the inspection plate, or derby cover, and pour in 1 quart of sportster primary fluid. be sure to get the one for the sportster, its not the same for the big twin engines.

this is correct for the older models, and i think its still correct for the new models as well.

you might also need to check the primary chain tension. (under the primary cover) it must be adjusted from time to time. sorry, its been a while since i did this on a sportster, so i cant remember if there is a inspection plate that this can be done thru, or if the primary cover has to come off.

  3. use sand
