Harmison’s X factor impresses Jason Gillespie- Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steve-Harmison-c2576 has the X factor in his bowling following the former Durham player’s quick three-wicket burst on Day 2 against Derbyshire.
The English club loaned the quick from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Sidebottom-c2333 to injury, hoping that the pacer could find his old form and help the club push for a place in the Elite Division.
"I said he's got that X-factor and he finds ways to get wickets, seemingly from situations where you wonder 'where is that wicket coming from' but he just manages to do it and that's one of the main reasons we got him on board.” Gillespie
said
"We constantly talk with him - good communication is the key - to keep his spirits up, and he loves talking about the game. It's been an absolute pleasure to have him regardless of what happens for the rest of the month. For us, it's
been absolutely worthwhile to sign him." added further.
Gillespie was part of the 2005 Ashes series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where some lethal quick bowling by Harmison decimated the Aussie batters and eventually paved way for an English win.
Knowing the capability of the right-armer, the coach was confident of the decision to include the quick despite watching Harmison slipping out of International cricket and also struggling to nail down a place in Durham’s playing XI
- further questioning Yorkshire’s wisdom of signing the 33-year-old.
The tall-fast-bowler has taken 226 Test wickets and has further bagged 736 first-class scalps, making him one of the highest achievers in the premier English domestic competition. However, the past few years have been tough for the
lanky paceman who has suffered a lot with various injuries.
The start to the game against Derbyshire was erratic for the quick, as he leaked runs at an average of 9 runs per over in his short 3-over spell. He bowled a couple of no balls and followed that up with five wides down the leg side
however, captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Jaques-c2182 kept faith in Harmison, bringing him back into the attack in the 20th over.
The 6ft 4inch bowler took three wickets in 11 balls to put Yorkshire in the driving seat as Derbyshire succumbed to 135 for 7, trailing by 84 runs, with 3 wickets remaining in their first innings, at stumps day 2. No play was possible
on Day 3.
