Harolds Cross Bookmakers renew Irish Puppy Derby sponsorship
There is great news on the horizon for all you greyhound racing enthusiasts, who can now expect further Puppy Derby action to keep you busy after this year’s Irish Derby.
The Bookmakers Puppy Derby will be held at Harolds Cross and is said to have a staggering €25,000 winner’s prize, and a total prize fund of over €56,000, making it the biggest Puppy race on the calendar.
Harolds Cross bookmakers have been the proud sponsors over the years and the news of the renewal was announced by the IGB [Irish Greyhound Board] on Tuesday morning.
HX boss Philip Peake also confirmed that the Bookmakers Puppy Derby will commence on its traditional eve of Irish Derby final date, Friday, September 10th and will proceed each Friday up to the final on October 8th.
The runner-up will claim €8,000 with the third collecting €4,000. The unplaced finalists will each earn €2,500 and semi-finalists €500 each. The entry fee for the classic will be €75.
The Pat Buckley-trained Tullymurry Act was the winner of the competition in 2009 after claiming victory by a head to beat the favourite Westmead Grant in 28.57sec.
