The International Cricket Council has taken strong exception to the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations’ chief, Tim May’s suggestions that the international cricketers had no faith in the ICC. May was reacting to the recent controversy in
which Pakistani wicket-keeper Zulqarnain Haider escaped to the UK without informing anyone because he thought that his life was threatened.

Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, said that May was either being ignorant or irresponsible to make such comments against the ICC’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit. Lorgat also added that what has got his goat was May’s statement that the apex cricket
body had actually leaked out the player details to the media from those who had actually approached the body.

Speaking to cricket website, ESPNcricinfo, Lorgat said, "He said that the players have no confidence in approaching the ACSU. I felt quite strange that Tim May [was] making such comments. He either made that out of ignorance or I hope he is not being irresponsible.
Those comments are certainly not justified in my view."

Earlier, May had said that Haider’s escape to UK was praiseworthy and that it was not cowardly on his part to do what he had done. He also added, "Some players have concerns about reporting [corruption]. They fear the confidential nature of them reporting it
will be breached."

Revealing some of the incidents in the past, May said, "In the past, players have gone to the anti-corruption unit and somewhere details of their talks with the anti-corruption has reached the media. Whether those leaks have come from the ICC or whatever, it
still gives the players the question over whether they can trust the ICC's anti-corruption unit."

Lorgat vehemently refuted the charges and said that the ICC has had many of the cricketers coming to them and revealing instances of being offered money. None of them have ever been reported according to Lorgat.

Lorgat said, “We have made never made any disclosure about which player came and spoke to us. We don't say who has come because we protect their identities."
