Former ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat has been taken on by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 Cricket (SLC) as a special advisor for a period of 3 months, in order to assist the board in improving the cricket administration in Sri Lanka, and modifying the country’s domestic cricket
structure.
“Mr Lorgat has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us to improve the governance and administration of our cricket,” said SLC president Upali Dharmadasa.
“As a board we are determined to tackle the challenges we face and to exploit the opportunities for the betterment of SLC,” Dharmadasa added. “Mr Lorgat is a seasoned administrator and I am excited that with his expertise we can work towards building a strong
and sustainable future for SLC.”
Lorgat, who will be occupying the role of consultant until October 31, 2012, has worked for Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in various positions, most prominent among them chairman of selectors, and also served on the finance and organising committees for the ICC World
Cup 2003. His most high-profile post has been that of ICC chief executive, which he occupied for a period of four years (his tenure ended in June this year).
Earlier, when the board had been considering the appointment, SLC treasurer Nuski Mohammed had stated in an interview with the
Sunday Times that the board was keen to utilise Lorgat’s expertise “with regard to the restructuring programme and find ways of bringing modern thinking into the process”. He also added that the board would be looking to obtain Lorgat’s assistance
in regards to improving their financial situation.
The last year has been a particularly rough period for SLC, after they racked up debts of up to $70 million in the process of renovating the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the construction of two new international stadiums in Pallekele and Hambantota

To add to the board’s woes, the national team’s performance was hampered by the resignation of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 suffered a prolonged losing streak (which has since come to an end
following the appointment of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DPMD-Jayawardene-c1397 as skipper). The board now faces the challenge of bolstering the domestic cricket structure in Sri Lanka, in order to keep the national team's performances above par at the international level – another issue
they will be keen to obtain Lorgat’s advice on.
