http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 backs ICC’s decision to retain D/L method – Cricket News Roundup – Part 3 – June 08, 2012
International Cricket Council chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, has spoken out in defence of the governing body’s decision to retain the Duckworth-Lewis system in favour of the newly-proposed VJD method from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The D/L rule, which employs mathematical formulas to calculate revised target scores when limited-overs matches are interrupted due to rain, was challenged by a rival method developed by Indian engineer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vasanathan-Jayadevan-c94935, who claimed that his version rectified
the flaws present in the current system.
However, his method has been rejected by the ICC, on the grounds that it offers no significant improvements over the D/L method, which the chief executive maintained was a solid system.
“... Duckworth-Lewis is a tried and tested method and to radically change something, you need something that is radically different and makes substantial sense,” Lorgat pointed out.
Former Pakistan skipper and batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580, is of the view that the key to bringing international cricket back to Pakistan is the improvement of security arrangements at cricket stadiums in the country.
“If we do not have adequate security measures at our grounds, no foreign team will visit us in the future and we will be isolated as far cricket is concerned,” he said, referring to the drought of international cricket which the country has been experiencing
since 2009.
Following a terrorist attack on the touring Sri Lankan team, the dubious security situation in the country has put an end to the prospect of foreign teams touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. However, Miandad is convinced that if the security at venues is beefed up, teams
will be more inclined to tour the country.
“PCB is taking every measure as per the procedure of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 to improve security arrangements at its venues and through these acts we can assure the cricket playing countries that we are in a much better position to host international cricket in Pakistan,” Miandad
said.
The pay deal stalemate between Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers’ Association continues, as both organisations maintain their respective stances, with the ACA demanding a change in the CA’s pay offer.
With the current players’ contracts due to expire on June 30, new deals are in the process of being negotiated. Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has maintained that their offer, which grants players an $80 million pay increase over the next five years, is an improvement
as compared to the last five years.
However, the ACA has insisted that the new offer, in light of the board’s reworked definition of revenue (based on performance-based calculations), will deprive the players of up to 30 million Australian dollars ($29.5 million). ACA chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Marsh-c81144 has
insisted that the union is not prepared to back down, and players will resort to a strike if their demands are not taken into consideration.
