The ICC’s chief executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 is hopeful that the charges made against the Pakistani trio would be proved right after the evidence that has been gathered.
He said that nothing should be above the game and if the Pakistan cricketers or any other cricketers are found guilty of any wrong doing, the ICC would take appropriate action to penalise them. The troubled trio of Pakistan including former Test Captain
Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir will face an independent tribunal in January next year. The decision on these players would be made after the case is heard from 6 – 11 January, 2011.
Haroon Lorgat claimed that the ICC has worked hard to gather a lot of evidence against the three Pakistani cricketers. The tribunal would be headed by Michael Beloff who chairs the ICC Code of Conduct Commission. He would also be assisted by other code of
conduct commissioners including Justice Albie Sachs of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752. Haroon Lorgat said that if the suspended players are found guilty of the charges put against them, the ICC would act strictly to make an example out of them. The charges
put against these players are severe and for the sake of the integrity of the game, some hard steps may be taken.
The players will be given a right to challenge the decision made if it goes against them. The players can file the challenge against the decision in the court of Arbitration for sport. The players would be hoping that the decision would go in their favour
to avoid further controversies and try to get back in international cricket.
The tabloid that put the charges on the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team would also participate in the hearing.
News of the World charged the Pakistani cricketers in August during the fourth Test at Lord’s between Pakistan and England. The charges circulated around a video of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed who was an agent of the players. The video showed Majeed talking about
the spot-fixing and collecting money from an undercover reporter. News of the World
alleged the Pakistani players of bowling deliberate no-balls in the first innings against England.
After the allegations came out, the evidence was collected by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard and the ICC’s anti-corruption unit. The evidence was believed to be more than enough for the ICC to provisionally suspend the players from playing cricket. Salman Butt and Mohammad
Amir appealed against the provisional suspensions but they didn’t succeed and weren’t allowed to play cricket. Mohammad Asif had earlier withdrawn his appeal.
The controversy has hurt the confidence of the Pakistan cricket team and it has badly affected the performance of team. The accused trio have claimed that they have never considered any wrong doing. They have always wanted to represent their country and
win the matches. The players have admitted that they had links with Mazhar Majeed but he used to be an agent for them rather than anything else. Mazhar Majeed was also an agent of former Captain of Pakistan cricket team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383 and amongst the current
team members, he was an agent of middle order batsman Mohammad Yousaf and fast bowler Umar Gul.
