While presenting http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 CEO) the International Cricket Council ODI Shield, in recognition of the Australia’s consistent top ODI ranking, ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat lauded the team for their continued dominance in the 50-over format of the game.
A prize-money cheque of US$ 175,000 was also presented to Sutherland by Tim Sullivan, Managing Director Australia NZ for Reliance Globalcom.
“In the past 20 years the Australian team has maintained an amazing grip on the ICC ODI Shield. They have simply dominated the 50 over format and show no signs of relinquishing their crown,” Lorgat said.
“This is the third successive year that Australia has been the top ODI side and indeed their dominance stretches back to 2002,” he pointed out, adding that the Aussies had only been pushed down to second place in 2008 and 2009 by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, when they had failed to make the April 1 deadline.
In addition to praising the Australian team’s performances, the ICC chief also stressed the importance of the ICC ODI Shield as an effective measure of the overall performances in the ICC Cricket World Cup format. He went on to point out that Australia had won consecutive World Cups in 2003 and 2007 while they were in possession of the shield.
Cricket Australia CEO Sutherland congratulated the team and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Cricket World Cup, scheduled to take place in 2015.
The Australian team’s recent one-day wins include their victory in the Commonwealth Bank series (played between Australia, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 (to be played on June 23 at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast), followed by a 5-match ODI series against arch-rivals England, scheduled to commence on June 29 at the Lord’s stadium in London.
