http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 satisfied with International Cricket Council annual meeting
Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Arthur-Percival-Day-c45927 with the decision to keep the 14-team format for the World Cup 2015.
Meanwhile, he accepted that debate during the annual meeting of the ICC’s Chief Executive Committee (CEC), was the reason to revert the previous decision of having a 10-team format for the next World Cup.
Lorgat said:
“There is no doubt that was a sore point following the meeting in April when the Board decided to reduce the World Cup to 10 teams. We took that on board. We sat and listened to all of the arguments and we have reverted to a 14-team Cricket World Cup in
2015 and 12 teams for World Twenty20 in 2012 and 2014.
So essentially we have now gone back to the previous formats that we had used in both the World Cup and World Twenty20. And I think on balance people are satisfied with that although some of the Associates and Affiliates are disappointed by the fact that
the World Twenty20 event will have 12 teams, not 16”.
At one stage of the recent World Cup there was a time when cricket fans lost interest in clashes between minnows, which reduced the charm of the event.
After the last mega event, the ICC decided to restrict the event to 10 teams to keep the excitement alive during the tournament.
However, the Associated teams, particularly http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, criticized the decision, which forced ICC to review the format during the annual conference of its chief CEC.
The ICC’s Associate members registered a document request to the ICC to review the structure of the World Cup.
The ICC President, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sharadchandra-Govindrao-Pawar-c89751, accepted the request after hearing and forwarded the case to the Executive Board.
Meanwhile, the ICC boss showed his satisfaction on the outcomes of its annual debate, and accepted that they have solved a complicated problem.
He also appreciated the acceptance of the Umpire Decision Review Systems (UDRS) in all formats of the game from the member boards, including the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 (BCCI).
