The Chief Executive of International Cricket Council, Haroon Lorgat, on Tuesday made it clear that the guilty verdicts handed down to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 by the UK court in the spot-fixing case will "have no impact" on the time-span of the suspensions
imposed on the players by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 at its own hearing in Doha in February this year.
The ICC chief said that the apex body has been following the criminal trial of the suspended http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 players and expressed satisfaction on the findings and verdict of the Southwark Crown Court.
"The ICC has been closely following the criminal trial at Southwark Crown Court in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 over the past few weeks," said Lorgat while talking to the media reporters at a press conference in Dubai.
Lorgat further said that the strict verdict of the jury was also a warning for International players, especially for those who might be tempted to engage in any such illegal activity.
The Southwark Crown Court of England, on Tuesday found former Test captain of Pakistan, Salman Butt and the ex-spearhead pacer, Mohammad Asif, guilty on the criminal charges of defrauding the English bookmakers by obtaining and accepting corrupt payments
from a bookie, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
It was almost a unanimous decision as the jury declared the two players guilty by a 10-2 majority.
Justice Cooke, the judge of Southwark Crown Court will pronounce the sentences on Wednesday and Thursday. Both Asif and Butt will remain on bail until then.
The maximum punishment for accepting corrupt money Under the British law is imprisonment for seven years, while the prison sentence for 'conspiracy to cheat' is two years detention maximum. The trio can also face heavy financial penalties
besides detention.
"These outcomes appear to be consistent with the findings of the independent anti-corruption tribunal which was appointed earlier this year to hear charges brought against the three players by the ICC under our own Anti-Corruption Code,"
said Lorgat.
"To be clear, the developments in the English criminal courts will have no impact upon those periods of suspension, which will remain in full force and effect," he added further.
The criminal charges against the suspended trio were set by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) of Britain.
