Haroon Lorgat to assist http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in Twenty20 league launch - Cricket News Update
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, will be assisting Pakistan Cricket Board in constituting the proposed domestic Twenty20 league to ensure that it gets off on the right note.
The news came when Lorgat visited Pakistan on his way to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397, enticed the wise propositions of the expert for launching the league, coming year in March.
After stepping down as the Chief Executive for the ICC, Lorgat has been working as an advisor for the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, which has been having problems in structuring their domestic frame alongside the administration.
"At this stage (I am supporting the PCB) at a strategic level, ensuring that the details are being attended to and that the concept (for the league model) is correct. With my experience in dealing with sponsors, broadcasters, setting up models, the kind of objective and the financial matters are the level where I am contributing at the moment. It appears like the PCB has already done a lot in linking with the member boards," said Lorgat.
Pakistan, the champions of the 2009 ICC World T20, were hit worse than ever when an attack was made on the touring Sri Lankan team's convoy, which was headed to Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, in March 2009. Since then, international teams have been increasingly reluctant in visiting Pakistan.
In an attempt to revive international cricket in the country, the PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf, wants prominent international stars to feature in Pakistan's own domestic Twenty20 league. Since 2009, Pakistan has not hosted any international cricket series and if the league results in a success, chances of a revival will brighten.
Sharing the same views, Lorgat expressed, "If international players come in personal capacity to play. Many of them can experience it themselves that cricket can be played at a secured venue."
The league is expected to follow the same pattern as the Indian, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
