Newcastle United goalkeeper Steve Harper spoke about his delight at the stability and management of the club following the 2-2 draw with Reading.
Manager Alan Pardew and his managerial staff were recently awarded 8-year contract extensions by owner Mike Ashley. This has been perhaps the first time in over a decade years that a manager has been given such a lucrative and long-term contract with the
Magpies.
Steve Harper, who has been with the club for the past 19 years, has hailed this decision and is relishing the new found stability at the club. The goalkeeper started in goal for the Magpies in the 2-2 draw against Reading, and made a stunning save to keep
Pavel Pogrebnyak’s header out and keep his side in the game.
Talking to the media after the game, Harper was more pleased by the extended stay of Pardew and his staff.
“I think all the lads were pleased to hear the news,” he said. “I’ve often said the club is a roller-coaster, but this hopefully gives us a long period of stability and ultimately success with a trophy or two.”
“I’ve had too many managers. I think I must have called about 40 people gaffer at one time or another! The amount of managerial changes has been far too many."
"As a manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew is very, very thorough. His man management is very good, he’s tactically very aware.”
The game against Reading ended in controversial manner as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 was seen to have handled the ball as he earned his side a vital away point.
The striker, who has now managed 5 goals in 3 games, was on target again as he helped Newcastle draw level twice, and share the spoils with Reading.
Ba’s first goal was absolute quality as he volleyed the ball into the back of the net from a lofted through ball. Reading had taken the lead on two occasions, and lost it again when Ba handled the ball in the second half.
Manager Alan Pardew admitted that it was a handball and stated it was unfortunate for Reading. However, he did not seem that concerned with his team’s dismal performance and was glad to have earned another away result.
