Harris counting himself out too soon: Siddle – Cricket News Update
Aussie paceman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330, saying the 32-year-old’s belief that he is not good enough to feature in the national squad for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies is unfounded.
“I guess just not playing so much cricket over the summer that's how he feels but if you look at how he went about the stuff in Sri Lanka, with the wickets produced in the last couple of weeks looking pretty similar, he performed well there,” Siddle told
AAP.
In addition to Harris, Aussie pacers vying for a spot in the Test squad include Peter Siddle, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board President's XI, which will determine which
players are going to have an upper-hand in the upcoming Test series.
Harris recently commented that he did not expect to feature in the playing XI for the Tests, owing to his recent average performances, which paled in comparison to those of his fellow pacers. The right-armer found himself included in the squad for the last
two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar trophy after Pattinson was forced to pull out owing to a foot injury. He went on to contribute 6 wickets at 29.83 to his side’s eventual 4-0 series sweep.
However, he was unable to channel the same skill in the subsequent Commonwealth Bank series – after having claimed 3 wickets at the expense of a shocking 171 runs in four innings, he was dropped from the squad, and claimed he was convinced it would stay
that way for the extended-overs leg of the Windies tour.
Siddle, however, feels his teammate is being hasty.
“I think he's counting himself out too soon. He's a great bowler and does do quite well in conditions like this.”
To prove his point, Siddle referred to Harris’ performance in the Warne-Muralitharan Trophy late last year - a series of three Test matches in Sri Lanka against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808, which the Aussies went on to win, 1-0 (3). Harris made a vital contribution to his
side’s victory, claiming 11 wickets at an average of 14.54.
Alluding to the Caribbean wickets, Siddle commented that so far they had been fairly low and slow – conditions which http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harris-c61739 had the potential to thrive in.
“It will be interesting to see how the Test pitches come up. You will need patience and consistency. Ryano showed that in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.”
