Harrison Frazar playing his first Masters Tournament
Harrison Frazar is thrilled to play his first Masters Tournament, as he shot a 1-over par in the first round on Thursday.
The 40-year-old American professional golf player played an average game at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
Since turning professional in 1996, playing at the Masters has been his biggest dream. He successfully achieved the honour after winning the debut win at the PGA.
He impressed the major officials after winning the St. Jude Classic in Memphis in June, 2011. He scored a 13-under 267 and defeated Robert Karlsson in a playoff mode.
“It’s a very, very lonely thing out there, spending 14 years somewhere not winning,” Frazar said. “It becomes a habit over time more than anything else. You expect yourself not to”.
His dream to play the Masters came true in 2012.
He shot a 73 in the first round to stand tied for the 45th position and is excited to show some more impressive strokes from Friday.
On the front nine holes of Augusta, he made one bogey on the 4th and one birdie on the 8th hole. He was able to score equal par most of the time.
He made another bogey on the 11th and a double-bogey on the 12th hole. He faced difficulties while scoring till the 12th hole. Later, he recorded two impressive birdies on the 14th and 17th hole.
Frazar's performance at the PGA was not so appealing this year. He missed the cut at three tournaments, whereas finished in the top-5 at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and Sony Open in Hawaii.
“Playing in the Masters was kind of like icing on the cake for him, getting that win was so big for him,” said Colt Knost, when he was standing alongside Frazar, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
He also shared that his favourite golfer, in the Masters field, is Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus is an 18-time major champion and the one, who attracted Frazar for the first major of the year.
“I had not really followed the Masters very closely, but because he was there I sat there and watched it,” Frazar said.
Now he will play the second round on Friday. It is expected that he will display a much better game and try to atone for his first-round lapses.
