Harrison Frazer hopes to make it big at Humana Challenge after a strong runner up finish at Sony Open
Harrison Frazer’s journey in the season-opener on the PGA Tour so far has been nothing less than spectacular, where the veteran has pulled in two top-five finishes.
Winner of the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June 2011, Frazer is all set to challenge the rest of the field at this year’s events, hoping to break into the top-50 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Frazer clinched an early lead in the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii when he carded his third birdie on the 10th after making the turn.
He looked comfortably approaching the summit with just as much effort but his back nine turned out to be surprisingly lacklustre, as he was not able to sink a single birdie for the remaining eight-hole stretch.
Frazer finished for a joint second, two shots behind the winner, Johnson Wagner.
Despite his loss, Frazer pulled in some stunning putts at the start of the season, setting strong vibes for the rest of the year.
"I played beautifully tee-to-green and I really left a bunch out there," said Frazar, who had 31 putts on Sunday.
He continued, "[I] hit some bad putts and then decent putts that I didn’t read properly. But for the most part, they were poor putts, and I’m a little disappointed about it".
A psychology graduate from University of Texas, Frazer turned professional in the year 1996 and has struggled for most part of his career.
Working as an estate appraisal analyst for Dallas Commercial Real Estate, Frazer had the task of the assessment of the golf courses in particular and was convinced by Mark Brooks to try his hand on professional sport.
Continuously playing for several years, Frazer was on the verge of bidding farewell to the sport when he finally clinched his maiden title last year.
The 40-year-old American started off 2011 on yet another medical exemption after consecutive hip injuries and subsequent rehabs, only to end up with five consecutive missing cuts.
He went off-course for a while to regain his composure and came back with a strong joint 14th at HP Byron Nelson Championship.
For the moment, Frazer is all brimming with confidence and seems content with his early gains in the season.
Frazer added, "You’re always happy if you get two top fives to start the year, but I don’t know really how to explain it, I’m just playing golf”.
The burly American is also featured in this week’s Humana Challenge, scheduled to start this Thursday at the picturesque PGA West Palmer Course in la Quinta, California.
The 53rd episode of the event is now being sponsored by Clinton Foundation after a decade’s long association with Bob Hope.
The 7060 yard par-72 course is nestled in the middle of Santa Rosa Mountains, presenting lengths of sprawling fairways and greens amid a sandy desert.
Some of the top-ranked players will be featuring in the $5.6 million event with a winner’s prize share of $1,008,000.
Among the sturdy field of the event, some of the formidable challengers will be the FedExCup Playoffs winner last year Bill Haas, the consistent Matt Kuchar, Scot Martin Laird, Bo Van Pelt and the ever-green Phil Mickelson.
