I live in a small street but there is an alley there, for the last few years people have been dumping rubbish here regulary, now there are mattresses and bags of rubbish accumulating in the alley, not small mattresses either. It lowers the tone of the street and just encourages more people to dump here. The council said it's private property so will not do anything about the alley. But the rubbish is right next to the pavement so creates an eyesore. What can i do?

  1. what ever you do , dont set fire to it. there could be an immigrant enclave in there!

  2. Usually the Enforcement Officer will arrange removal and charge the landowner. Try complaining to Environmental Health, if it's decaying household refuse it won't be long before there's rats and maggots, not to mention the smell and bacteria. If all else fails you could contact your Councillor and the Harrow Observer, councils hate bad publicity.

  3. Try the environmental health department. Say that you have seen rats there.

  4. Thats disgusting, what do we pay our council tax for?

  5. Wait until about 3 in the morning and move it to middle of road see what they do then

  6. At night you and a friend drag it onto the pavement (beware of CCTV) It will be removed within a day or two.

  7. Set fire to it- that usually makes someone do something fairly quickly!

Alternatively, get your local paper involved- about how the council can't be bothered etc., etc.  These days nobody does anything unless they have to!

  8. if its private property, you can complain to the council about the rubbish and they will contact the owner of the property asking for it to be removed at the owners expense.

  9. I have the same kind of problem. Get the runaround, call police, police do nothing, health dept does nothing says call police we also get dead animals dumped since we a rural. The neighbors finally just take care of it ourselves. There are always going to be pigs in the world and unfortunately most are people you don't want to mess with. You can try hiding and taking pictures but then you would have to deal with them and that could be dangerous. People who dump illegally are not good people.

  10. Hire a lorry and dump it on the council steps .

Set fire to it then they might move it once the fire brigade is involved.

Tell the council you cut your foot on some of it and are sueing them for millions.

Inform environmental health that you think some of it could be toxic.

Tell immigration there are illegal immigrants living in it.

Contact the Tate Gallery and get £10 million for it.

    Sell it on Ebay.

Ask Sellafield if it's normal for rubbish to glow in the dark. (they'll shift it in 5 minutes flat)

Seriously though, fly tipping is becoming a national pastime and it's a threat to us and the environment, and it's not being helped by fortnightly collections and all the other dubious money-saving schemes that councils are coming up with. We have a similar problem here, and it's getting worse by the week. I don't know what the answer is ... maybe move to a house near a councillors', you can bet your life there won't be a problem there.

  11. My advice is to continue to be a Torn at the council's side. If you can get the whole community and more people to agree with you, you would think that this "council" will "see" how much of a eyesore your alley is! Good Luck!

Adding: I got reported for a violation from this question. The reason was I treating someone's avatar, but how can I be when their miles away? I gave them a piece of my mind and some truth too, but a bitter peel truth can be. They didn't like that at all! Sad to say, I have to laugh somewhat on this, then again, are they wise or a fool?
