Harry Kewell linked with a move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Melbourne-Victory-c39899 – A-League news
Former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 player, Harry Kewell, has been linked with a move to Melbourne Victory during the summer. The attacking midfielder was contacted by the Aussie outfit after being released by Galatasaray at the end of the 2010/11 season. The club have confirmed
their interest after nominating Mehmet Durakovic as their new coach earlier this month.
Victory officials mentioned that the Australian international would be a huge boost for their side and the club have been in contact with the 32-year-old. Kewell also confirmed about Victory’s interest but was not sure whether he would accept the offer.
The former Leeds United man told that he would like to be associated with one of the top European outfits but will only think about his future after taking a few weeks off from the sport.
Durakovic, on the other hand, wanted the player in his ranks for the upcoming 2011/12 campaign. The former Australian international replaced Ernie Merrick at the AAMI Park and claimed that he would do his level best to bring the former Liverpool man back
to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 during the summer.
Club chairman Anthony di Pietro added that the 32-year-old has been in constant talks with the club and the Blues would assure his signature at any cost.
The Chairman further added, "Harry Kewell is an iconic sports figure in Australia, not just in football. It would be great for the A-League. We would http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Love-c22466 Harry to come back to Australia. This is the first time we've admitted to negotiating with a player.
That in itself tells you of the significance of the signing like Harry Kewell. We're not in a position to say that it is any closer or now. We're in the mix with everybody else. We'd love him to have these (Melbourne Victory) guernseys on, but we'll wait and
see."
Kewell managed 63 league appearances during his three-year stay at Galatasaray netting in 22 goals during the process. He was with the Reds for five years (2003-08) and spent seven years with Leeds United (1996-2003). Kewell made his international debut
in 1996 and has managed 54 caps for his country since then.
