Harry Potter Speaks to Snakes - or Does He?

*spoiler alert if you have not read the 7th book*

After Voldemort kills-but-not-really Harry, can Harry still speak Parseltongue? I know that Harry is no longer a Horcrux, and I was wondering if that was any kind of deciding factor when it comes to speaking to snakes.

I LOVE HP.

Thanks,

Carter

  1. Wow. Good Question. I never thought about it, but now that I am, I don't think he can Because the reason he could is because Voldemort gave part of himself to Harry (his Horcrux). I guess it's a sacrifice for killing Voldemort, jk.

  2. He does not speak to snakes they speak to him or at least he thinks they do.

  3. i was wandering the same thing. well the voldemort part in him died and the parsletounge ability would also disappear.

  4. In an interview shortly after Deathly Hallows came out, JKR said that after the Voldemort soul-fragment in Harry was destroyed, he could no longer speak Parseltongue, and didn't regret losing the ability.

EDIT - Cruciatus Curse to the thumbs-downer!!  Although, evidently having no brain, it's doubtful whether s/he will feel anything. :-P

  5. Remember when Voldemort tried to kill Harry as a baby and gave him that lighten bolt scar? Part of Voldemort's magical powers were transfered to Harry, which is why the scar hurt each time Harry felt that Voldemort was near. Personally, I think that Harry will always posses Voldemort's powers even though Voldemort was destroyed in the end. It is also an important fact that when Harry touches his scar at the end of the 7th book that he still possessed the power to  sense whether Voldemort was near by or is still alive. Thus, I think that although Voldemort is dead Harry is still able to posses Voldemort's power of Parseltongue.

  6. I don't think he can. The reason he was able to speak Parseltongue was because of the piece of Voldemort inside of him. Now that it's gone, I would think that the ability to speak to snakes would be gone too.

  7. JKR said in an interview that he loses this ability with the horcrux. It's on this page under "magical abilities and skills". Just scroll down until you find it.

    I love HP too!

  8. Harry can no longer speak parstletongue after the Horcrux within him is killed.  It was the Horcrux that had the ability to speak to snakes because it was a little part of Voldemort's soul.  Once Harry's scar (the Horcrux itself) was gone, Harry lost the ability.

  9. After Voldy is destroyed, he can't speak parseltongue anymore because the Hocrux that was in him was destroyed. The only reason he could speak it was becsuse he was a Hocrux.

  10. The Horcrux Voldemort created enabled Harry to speak Parseltongue. After it was destroyed, Harry lost the ability, since it wasn't really his to begin with.

  11. Since Harry only had that ability because he was a Horcrux, then he wouldn't be able to speak Parseltongue after that bit of Voldemort's soul had been destroyed. Just like his scar didn't hurt anymore, or he couldn't tell Voldemort's mood before Voldemort had died, etc..

They no longer shared that connection between them.

    :)

  12. yes i guess he doesn't have it anymore....because he is no longer the horcrux and he lost all the things that connected him to voldemort ... but this reminded me of something they didn't show that harry understood everything nagini said infact i don't remember him talking to it at all but if he by somehow were able to understand nagini before, this would prove that his parseltongue ability was over because when neville distroyed nagini harry was there and he must have heard or understood nagini's squeals but he didn't
