Harry Redknapp: ‘Amazing’ Gareth Bale not for sale
After another virtuoso display from Tottenham winger Gareth Bale in Tuesday night’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Inter Milan, ecstatic manager Harry Redknapp insisted the in-demand 21-year-old was not for sale.
The Welsh star produced another stunning display against the reigning European champions at White Hart Lane, assisting the final two goals and terrorising the Nerazzurri defence throughout the entire 90 minutes.
With the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter all reportedly interested in launching a multi-million pound bid for the Wales international, Redknapp was quick to quash rumours that the club will sell if the price is right.
"As far as selling him goes, the people who own Tottenham are not poor people," the Spurs boss said. "They don't need to sell him.
"I don't think Gareth needs to go anywhere else to play his football.
"He needs to stay here at White Hart Lane."
But following his sensational hat-trick at the San Siro a fortnight ago, and now this equally impressive performance back in north London, Tottenham face a tough task on their hands to keep hold of arguably their most prized asset.
"He was amazing," Redknapp purred after last night’s 3-1 victory.
"Maicon is rated as the best right-back in the world and what he's done to him over the last two games is amazing.
"He can cross, his left foot is great on the run, he can shoot, dribble, head it, he's got everything."
With speculation mounting that Bale could command a transfer fee of up to £50 million, any bid of this magnitude would surely tempt Tottenham into selling.
Until then, Redknapp will be hoping the Welshman continues his excellent start to the season to inspire Spurs into the Champions League knockout stages.
Despite Bale’s heroics, the Tottenham manager was also keen to hail the performances of every one of his players.
"He was brilliant but the whole team was brilliant tonight, from Carlo [Cudicini], every one of them," Redknapp added.
"There wasn't one of them tonight who didn't work and do exactly what we asked of them.
"It was outstanding performance tonight, one of the great nights, I would think, at White Hart Lane that the fans have seen.
"It was a fantastic night. From the first to the last we played unbelievably. Pressed them, outworked them, outplayed them all night."
