Harry Redknapp: Peter Crouch not for sale
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp today declared that Peter Crouch is not for sale at any price.
The 6ft 7in striker has been linked with moves to several of Spurs’ English Premier League rivals throughout the summer, with his former club Liverpool, Sunderland and Everton among his potential suitors.
Despite Redknapp having other high-quality attackers at his disposal including Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane, he has reiterated his stance over the player and said he wishes to keep the 29-year-old at White Hart Lane. Sky Sports quoted the manager as saying that “Crouchie is not for sale at any price."
In the face of the speculation surrounding the player, the Spurs boss told reporters earlier this month that: "I am a big fan of Peter's. I brought him to the club and I have no interest in letting him go."
There had been reports linking the England international with a swap deal to Everton with South Africa midfielder Steven Pienaar, with the Daily Mail reporting earlier this week that the deal had been ‘close’ to being completed. However, Redknapp’s remarks today have killed off any likelihood of that transfer taking place.
Crouch started his career with Spurs after coming through the ranks as a youth player. However, he never made a first-team appearance with the club and was sold on to Queens Park Rangers in 2000. After a couple of seasons in the English lower leagues with QPR and Portsmouth, he was snapped up by EPL outfit Aston Villa in 2002. However, that move did not prove entirely successful as he netted just six times in 43 games across all competitions in his three seasons there.
A season with Southampton proved more successful as he notched 16 goals in 33 games before earning a switch to EPL big guns Liverpool. In 134 games for the Reds, he claimed 41 goals as well as the FA Cup in 2006 while he also appeared in the 2007 UEFA Champions League final against AC Milan. A spell at Portsmouth followed before his return to Spurs last summer.
At international level, Crouch has featured 40 times for the England senior team and has scored 21 goals. He participated in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup tournaments.
