Harry Redknapp claims he never considered selling Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359
Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, revealed he had never considered selling out of from striker Jermain Defoe during the summer transfer window. The English striker has since then improved after the arrival of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 and has already
gone on to score three goals this season.
The three goals early on in the season look extremely promising, especially since Defoe scored just nine goals in 30 appearances last season. Redknapp revealed he had never lost faith in Defoe, even when he was not in the best of forms, and was glad that
the striker had shown improvement recently.
After his poor performance last season, Defoe was reportedly linked to a host of sides in the transfer window. The Spurs’ manager recently revealed he had never seriously considered parting ways with the 28-year-old striker, choosing to sell http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741
to Stoke City instead.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“There was a Premier League team that came in for him. I can't remember who it was. It was a poor offer, but I said: 'no chance'. I would never have sold him.”
Having previously managed the striker at Portsmouth, Redknapp is aware of what Defoe is capable of, which is why he did not think of parting ways with the striker this summer. The English manager felt the England international still had a lot of offer, having
shown a big improvement this season.
He continued:
“I would have been scared to sell him. He is one of those who would come back to haunt you.
I have always liked him. He is sharp, a good finisher. There aren't too many better than Jermain Defoe around.”
The Tottenham Hotspur manager felt Defoe had a chance to once again establish himself as the first choice striker for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 having been riddled with various injuries for some time now, Redknapp believed Manchester United
striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 stood a chance along with Defoe.
Redknapp said:
“I think Jermain is working hard enough. It's probably between him and Bent. Rooney and Jermain have had a few go’s and have done okay at times.
It's up to the manager. You have to admire Jermain and what he has done.”
