Harry Redknapp confident he can keep Chelsea bound Luka Modric at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed he was certain he could convince Chelsea bound midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international was left out of the squad against Manchester United in the English Premier
League clash last night, it became apparent Modric was close to his dream switch to Chelsea.
Redknapp revealed he had decided to leave the 25-year-old out of the squad heading to Old Trafford since he felt the player’s head was not in the right place. This only hinted that the Englishman was close to submitting to Modric’s imminent move to Stamford
Bridge. However, Redknapp seems to have changed his mind and is now certain he can convince the Croatian midfielder to remain with the Spurs.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“If anyone can pick him up, I can. I have a great relationship with him.”
The Tottenham Hotspur manager claimed to have a great relationship with Modric and said he would be successful in convincing him to snub the Blues. While Redknapp had said he had made the decision to leave Modric out of the trip to Manchester United, the
match Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-0, it is believed Modric is on a strike.
Redknapp felt Modric was just confused because of the amount of wages Chelsea had promised him if he completed the move to Stamford Bridge. He said he understood the situation was not easy and it would take time to persuade Modric to remain with the Spurs,
especially with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 having trebled his current wages.
Redknapp continued:
“If someone offers £150,000 a week rather than £50,000, you are going to have your head turned.”
The Spurs boss admitted that the player wanted to leave, having made it very clear with his transfer request and apparent refusal to play. However, Redknapp revealed the decision was not up to him and that the club chairman, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy, had the final say
regarding transfers. So far, Levy is determined not to let Modric leave for Chelsea.
The Spurs chairman has so far rejected two bids by Chelsea, with the Blues expected to make a third improved bid. It is rumoured that Chelsea could offer a player along with the transfer fee to tempt Tottenham Hotspur to part ways with their prized midfielder.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didier-Drogba-c11044 could be part of the deal.
Redknapp’s main concern was Modric leaving for Chelsea on the deadline day of the transfer window, which would leave the Spurs no time to look for a replacement. Levy previously claimed he would not sell Modric towards the end of the transfer window at any
cost and Redknapp agrees with him, knowing that would leave them without a crucial player and no one to replace him.
Redknapp said:
“It is very hard to keep people when they want to go but the chairman will make the decision and he has made up his mind he will not sell.
There is no point selling late in the window anyway when I can't get any replacements. That won't help anyone.”
