Harry Redknapp deems Tottenham Hotspur’s campaign a success – English Premier League news
Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, has claimed that the ongoing 2010/11 season ranks as one of the most successful in the club’s history, despite the fact that Spurs failed to retain their UEFA Champions League status.
It has been a rollercoaster season for Tottenham. The London club enjoyed a spectacular debut campaign in the Champions League, progressing all the way to the quarter-finals before being ousted by Spanish giants Real Madrid. Having had a taste of Europe’s
biggest club competition, the Spurs were desperate to keep their place in the tournament by once again finishing in the top four of the Barclays Premier League.
However, their hopes of repeating last season’s heroics were dashed thanks to a disappointing string of results in the run-in to their season. The final nail in their Champions League bid was hammered in by Manchester City. The Sky Blues defeated Tottenham
1-0 at the Eastlands to ensure at least a fourth place finish for themselves in the league.
Having experienced first-hand the thrill of the Champions League, it will be extremely difficult for both the players and the supporters to readjust themselves for the relatively tame UEFA Europa League. In fact, Tottenham’s place in even that tournament
is not yet ensured, as a resurgent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 look set to pip the Spurs in the race for fifth place.
However, despite all the disappointments his side had to bear this season, manager Harry Redknapp still believes that the current campaign has been a successful one.
Speaking on the matter, the Tottenham boss said, “It's been a fantastic year, one of the best Spurs have had since I don't know when. We were in the last eight of the Champions League and were pushing to finish in the top four all season. We've done better
than last year."
There are fears among the Spurs faithful that star players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 are on their way out of White Hart Lane in the summer. But Redknapp believes that those fears are unfounded.
He added, “It won't be hard to keep hold of the players we have now - we never had Champions League football before. In the past, players haven't signed for us because we're in the Champions League.”
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table.
