Harry Redknapp determined to keep hold of Gareth Bale
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has issued a warning to would-be suitors that the club will not sell star man Gareth Bale.
The Welshman delivered an outstanding performance as he single-handedly dragged his side back into their UEFA Champions League group stage match against defending champions Inter Milan on Wednesday, 20 October.
Having found themselves 4-0 down by half-time due to a goals by Javier Zanetti, Dejan Stankovic and a Samuel Eto’o double, Spurs continued to fight on. 21-year-old Bale led the charge and ended up capping a stellar solo showing by scoring a hat-trick in
the second period.
That has led to increased interest in Wales international Bale, already celebrated by several of Europe’s biggest clubs including Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter. But Redknapp has told those suitors that there is no chance he will sell Bale in the
near future, adding that Bale’s performance against Inter had been world-class.
"He's a player that we hope to build a team around. There's no way that we would or should contemplate selling him at the moment, certainly not in the near future. If Tottenham sell Gareth Bale now, it would send out the wrong signals about Spurs being a
selling club. It was a fantastic hat-trick from Gareth. He's as good a left-sided player as there is anywhere around, there aren't too many in the world better than him."
For his part, Bale is happy to remain at the club he joined from Southampton in 2007.
Bale told the Evening Standard, "I am just happy playing week in, week out for Tottenham and learning my football here. Hopefully, there is still a lot more to come from me. I am still young and still learning and I want to keep getting better and
better. That's all I want to do. The manager has given me the chance to play and I am grateful for that. He has given me the confidence and belief to go out there and express myself and that is the best thing a manager can do."
Bale’s hat-trick is even more remarkable as Spurs played the vast majority of the game with just ten men due to goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes being given his marching orders after just eight minutes for a foul on Jonathan Biabiany.
