Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has criticized Manchester United striker for his foul-mouthed rant in the Premier League game against West Ham at Upton Park. He said that the FA was right to issue a two-match suspension
to the forward as he truly deserved it.
Rooney used expletives in front of the camera as he celebrated his hat-trick against the Hammers after scoring a penalty. The striker issued an apology after the match and claimed it was the heat of the moment which led to the
irresponsible behaviour. But the Football Association has charged the United man and he will miss the next two games for his club.
The former West Ham manager said that he didn’t see what happened as he was returning with his team after the match against Wigan Athletic, but from what he has read in the newspapers, the decision is a right one.
Redknapp added that he was unable to understand the mentality of the young players today. He said that he had never seen the legendary Bobby Charlton doing something like that as players in that time were thorough professionals.
“I don't know why he did that. I don't remember Bobby Charlton doing that when he used to smack goals into the top corner from 35 yards. Why do these young players have to be so angry with the world? I don't know why. They are
getting hundreds of thousands of pounds a week,” the Spurs boss was quoted as saying.
Harry Redknapp also admitted that he had immense respect for Wayne Rooney as a player but incidents and acts like these dent your reputation and should be avoided.
“I respect him (Rooney) as a player but he is a silly boy for what he did and he shouldn't have done it,” concluded the former Portsmouth manager.
Wayne Rooney will miss his next two games as he will serve the ban. The decision could prove critical at this stage of the season for the Red Devils as they face Manchester City and Fulham in the FA Cup and Premier League respectively
in their next two games.
