Harry Redknapp issues Roman Pavlyuchenko warning as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heurelho-Gomes-c16173 nears Tottenham Hotspur exit
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp urged striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 international is yet to make a start for the Spurs this season, having made
just substitute appearance so far.
Since the arrival of Manchester City striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359, Pavlyuchenko has been dropped to the bench. It is highly unlikely that he will be able to pave
his way back into the starting XI unless he improves his form.
Redknapp said he was hopeful the former Spartak Moscow striker would improve soon and try and compete for a place in the team. While Pavlyuchenko made a total of 39 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net 14 times, it seems highly unlikely
he will get a chance to do the same this season.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“Hopefully he will come to life. When he is up for it, he can play.
But there's a good understanding developing between Adebayor and Jermain Defoe.
Those two are going well. Rafa van der Vaart plays off the main striker as well so there is competition there for a place.”
The biggest threat to Pavlyuchenko’s spot in the first team is the excellent striking partnership between Adebayor and Defoe. With both of the strikers having scored three goals each so far, the only way Pavlyuchenko can hope for a place in the starting
line-up is if either of the two is sidelined with injury or suspension.
Meanwhile, Redknapp revealed there was a possibility goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes could be on his way out during the upcoming January transfer window. The 30-year-old Brazilian has lost his first choice goalkeeper status to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Friedel-c7953, because of which he
will most likely leave the London side in this winter’s transfer window.
Redknapp revealed Gomes was aiming for a place in the Brazil squad for the World Cup and wanted to focus on his national team. His future is yet to be decided though, the Tottenham stopper is apparently going to wait until the transfer window before he decides
on his future.
The Spurs boss revealed:
“He wants to play at the World Cup with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858, so it's going to be a problem. We'll wait until the next window and see where that takes us.”
Redknapp insisted Gomes was a world class goalkeeper, but he felt Friedel was a better choice in the English Premier League. At the same time, the English manager has stuck with former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlo-Cudicini-c8340 for the Europa League fixtures.
He continued:
“He has done nothing wrong. He's a fantastic goalkeeper and a great pro. I just went with Carlo in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Greece-c2908 and he was magnificent.”
