Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed he has not yet been approached by the Football Association for the position of the England national team manager.
After the resignation of Italian manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello, Redknapp is currently the favourite to replace him as the England manager. Capello handed in his resignation following a disagreement with the FA regarding the decision to strip Chelsea captain John
Terry of the captain’s armband for the second time.
It has been more than two weeks since Capello resigned and the FA have been unable to find a suitable replacement. The team will be temporarily under the management of Stuart Pearce, the England under-21 and Olympic team manager, as they prepare for their
friendly against Holland later in the week.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
"No, I haven't been approached.”
The Spurs boss was certain Pearce would do a good http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 with the senior team as they prepared for the friendly against Holland on Wednesday. Having managed Manchester City previously, Redknapp was certain the former West Ham United player had what it took
to lead the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 side to victory.
He revealed:
“I signed him as a player for West Ham and he was fantastic. I tried to sign him two years before but the chairman at West Ham at the time said 'he's too old Harry, he's finished'.
Then he went to Newcastle, didn't do so great, but I took him to West Ham two years later and he was absolutely fantastic. He was top class.”
Redknapp is expected to retain Pearce if he is appointed the new England national team manager in the near future. However, in the mean time some difficult decisions await Pearce, for example naming the captain for the fixture against Holland.
Normally http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173 would have been candidates but since they have been left out of the squad, Pearce will have to choose someone else. According to Redknapp, Scott Parker was an excellent
player and would handle the role of captain well.
Redknapp continued:
“There are a lot of good candidates there but Scott has captained the team here a couple of times here this year and he is a fantastic boy, a great professional.”
