Harry Redknapp praises Tom Huddlestone
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has handed out high praise to Tom Huddlestone, claiming that the midfielder has everything a modern-day player needs.
The 23-year-old has become a prominent part of the Spurs first-team since Redknapp became manager two years ago. His strong form has led to him being called up to the England squad on a regular basis, and he is in the current selection for a UEFA 2012 European
Football Championship qualifying match against Montenegro.
Huddlestone also narrowly missed out on being included in Fabio Capello’s 23-man squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, having been among the provisional 30-man list.
Redknapp has been delighted with the contribution of Huddlestone as Spurs qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history after finishing fourth in the English Premier League last season.
"Tom's done great for us. He's a great passer of the ball, he can pick players out, he keeps possession for you. He's got everything, really. He made some great blocks for us in the game against FC Twente (in the Champions League)."
"Just as players were about to unload from the edge of the penalty box, Tom came in and made some fantastic stops for us. He's added that to his game as well, the defensive side is better. I have said to him that he has to hold and give us stability as everyone
else is looking to bomb forward. He's a clever player and understands the game well."
Redknapp is also pleased with Huddlestone’s versatility, with the player being able to use both of his feet equally well.
"He's a fantastic passer of the ball with both feet. He doesn't know if he's left-footed or right-footed, they feel exactly the same, which is amazing and a great advantage when players try to close you down.”
