Harry Redknapp raves over red hot Rafael van der Vaart
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp paid tribute to Rafael van der Vaart after the Dutch international inspired his side to a 2-1 win over Aston Villa yesterday.
Van der Vaart – an £8million deadline day signing from Real Madrid – scored twice as Spurs came from behind to beat Villa at White Hart Lane, and move up to fifth place in the Premier League table.
The Dutchman profited from two Peter Crouch assists for his brace, and has now scored four goals in his six Spurs appearances. His manager couldn’t be happier.
“Rafa's a goalscorer,” said Redknapp. “He always wants to receive the ball and is always looking to get on the ball and score.
“When the ball goes up to Crouchy he's always around and he's got that knack of scoring goals.
“He's started well here and he's getting fitter as he goes. He's not had too many 90 minutes and he's had a tough week with three games, so his fitness is improving. He's got off to a flying start with us. The crowd have taken to him and they like the way he plays, they always love a good footballer.
“He'll always pop up and be dangerous and I'm sure he'll be a big hit here.”
Yesterday’s opposing manager Gerard Houllier was also full of praise for the Dutchman after he condemned the Frenchman to a first defeat as Aston Villa boss.
“I think he was outstanding,” said Houllier, “but Crouchy was good as well.”
