Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has ruled out the sale of star performers Luka Modric and Gareth Bale in the 2011 summer transfer window.
Redknapp insists that the duo is pivotal to the club’s success in the future and they cannot win trophies without the pair. The Spurs are unlikely to seal a UEFA Champions League spot for the 2011-12 season and keeping hold of the star pair might be a huge
task for the Lilywhites.
Harry Redknapp’s men drift the fourth placed Manchester City by six points and with only three matches left to play, it is highly unlikely they could overcome the deficit.
Tottenham appeared in their first-ever Champions League in the ongoing 2010-11 season and had a wonderful time in the campaign. They finished on top of their group and beat AC Milan in the round of 16 before eventually losing to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
Bale and Modric played a huge role in Tottenham’s success and have attracted a lot of interest for their impressive performances.
Talking to reporters Redknapp said, “I hate it when people say. If they don’t make the Champions League they’re going to sell Bale or Modric. That’s not the way forward. The way forward now is to say.”
“Let’s go and find one or two top-drawer players and move on again to get back in the Champions League. Gareth and Luka came here when we weren’t in the Champions League and they know we’re a good side. But what we have to do now is show them we do mean
business,” added the former Portsmouth manager.
Redknapp added that he would add new players to his team in the upcoming summer transfer window to boost his team’s chances of the Champions League qualification. The 64-year-old added that he will spend on two or three players and will definitely add a
quality striker to his team.
The former West Ham United manager added that he will not spend like some of his top four rivals have done earlier in the season.
