Harry Redknapp says Tottenham Hotspur needs two more players to make serious title bid
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes that the club is just two key signings away from being able to make a serious charge for the English Premier League title.
Redknapp took over the reigns at White Hart Lane just under two years ago, when Spurs were mired at the bottom of the league table with just two points from eight matches. The turnaround since has been impressive, with the former Portsmouth boss leading
Spurs to a fourth-place finish last season and into the UEFA Champions League.
Following such a stark improvement in the club’s fortunes, Redknapp told Daily Mail that just two world-class signings were all he needed to build a side capable of challenging for the championship.
"I think Tottenham may be one or two big signings away from being a team that could win the championship. One or two players in the right positions, and I'm talking about two top, top players in the right positions."
"If we could go and do that, I think Tottenham are a team that could win the championship in a couple of years. This squad is just so full of talent anyway, players who have made their mark and (chairman) Daniel Levy has done a great job backing my judgement
and improving the squad and the club, that I really believe we're not far away from that level."
It is believed that the positions Redknapp is hoping to boost his options in are attack and central defence.
Though Spurs have strikers capable of causing most teams damage in Jermain Defoe and Peter Crouch, a world-class striker, such as Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema would be essential in a title charge.
Meanwhile, Redknapp will also be on the lookout for a long-term replacement for fragile captain Ledley King, with centre-halves Gary Cahill of Bolton Wanderers and Stuttgart’s Serdar Tasci said to be on his watchlist.
